Question How to replace power window motor?

The passenger-rear power window stopped working in my 2004 RES today. When I push the button there is no sound that the window motor is working, and the window is in the down position.

I pulled the door and plastic off and removed the three bolts for the window motor. I'm a little stuck now. There are three things attached to the motor (that I can see)
- Power
- Cable 1 (guessing its for 'up' movement)
- Cable 2 (guessing its for 'down' movement)

I have a Haynes manual and it doesnt help -- at all. Wish I would have just bought the regular Honda shop manual.

Anyways, has anyone replaced their window motor before? I've searched and not been able to find anything. Thanks for the help.

After a little more looking around, it looks like it's easier to replace the entire window regulator (including the motor).

Here is what I'm looking at:
Honda Automotive Parts

Can anyone confirm that this is what I need to be ordering?
72710-S9V-A02 REGULATOR ASSY., R. RR. DOOR POWER $62.79

Thanks.

Did you check all the fuses?

Didn't think to start there. Unfortunately, the fuses look fine and all of the other windows/locks work correctly.

I just did this job yesterday on my 04 Pilot.

I got hosed on the regulator though. $106

Easy job. Hardest part is getting the door panel off because of the clips. A good solid yank seems to do the trick.

Unbolt everything, tape the window up. Put the new one in place and your good to go.

Got the part in the mail today and have the Pilot all fixed up now. It really is pretty easy. Before I received the new part in the mail I was a little nervous about the wire cable -- was not sure how to route it. The new one just replaces the whole thing, though.

I was also concerned about disconnecting the window from the actuator. But I just roll the window about half way down -- there are some pre-drilled holes that you can use to get at the screws.

Most tedious part for me was re-sticking the plastic moisture barrier. Some light heat from a heat gun did the trick, though.

Gotta love saving a couple hundred bucks...

9 months later and I add this...

My 04 regulator blew up on my EXL-RES Pilot Saturday pm. Took off the door panel and plastic and saw cable and gears and springs laying down in the bottom of the door.

Bought a new regulator/motor ( they're only sold together as one unit ) for $98 out the door from the dealership.

My glass, still attached to the regulator mount had fallen into the door. Like an idiot, I unbolted everything and took the glass OUT of the door! As in completely out of the car! That was a scary endeavour... the glass only fits in one way and it's REALLY, REALLY tight getting it in and out.

Didn't think to tape the glass in the up position and just remove the broken parts and replace. Duh..

Of course, I'd be the one to have the glass fall as I'm replacing parts and have the whole thing shatter down in the door after cutting my finger off!

So, about 2 hours this morning to slowly put it back together and the immense satisfaction of having done the job for under $100 AND getting my window rolled back up/down for security (my Pilot sits in the driveway at my house... the garage has the queen's (my wife's) Mazda Miata and a boat taking up both sides), I go to bed knowing the job was done right and for cheap.

Hi Guys,

I'm brand new to the board - 1st post.

My 05 Pilot just had rear window failure with the window all the way down. I purchased the part from the dealer thanks to your help here. I have the panel and plastic off but can't raise the window up more than a 4-5 inches and therefore cannot get the part out and cannot see what seems to be keeping it from moving. One of the cables is broken, that I can tell but can't see inside to tell much else. I obviously don't want to force the glass up.

Where do I go from here?

Thanks very much for your help!

Cut the cables on the old regulator and see if you can raise the window up by hand to the point that you can access the bolts.

Hold onto the window as you cut the cables!

Thanks for the reply.

That's basically what I did... this gave me a little more play but I ultimately had to remove the inner window trim to gain a little more movement and gain access to the bottom bolts on the bracket. Once I got those out it was extremely simple to remove and replace the part get it buttoned back up.

Thanks for the tips and tricks!

I have a 2008 pilot and when I look for window regulators, they only list the front, not the rear. I need the left-rear. Does anyone know if they are the same part as the front?

Line #5..... $68 or so....good price if I recall. I paid about $100 for my rear passenger side regulator back in July at the dealer
