I bought a set of Yakima RailGrab w/58" crossbars for my wife's 2008 Pilot, with every intention to remove them when we're not using them... Well they haven't been off the car in almost a year at this point. They do make for a significant increase in noise at highway speeds. Does anybody have any experience with either the Yakima Fairing or Windjammer? Does either do a good job at reducing the noise caused by the crossbar(s)? Do they have any impact to mileage? And if you've got a fairing what size did you install?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

I have the 66" load bars on my '11 and yes, there is definitely whistling at speed! I purchased the 44" Yakima fairing (part #8007048) and it helps a ton. Reduced whistling by 80% and no bad side effects that I have seen after 20K miles. I do have a Yakima SkyBox cargo tube, when that's installed you have to remove the fairing both for fitment & airflow reasons.
However, my bike, kayak, and ski racks all work very well with the fairing. I'll post a pic later if I remember to!

I've got the narrower Yakima fairing on my 07. Definitely helped with the noise. Another thing to consider is to move the front bar as far back as possible when not using it. At the very least, it moves the noise source further back. I did have an issue with the outer corners of the fairing hitting the roof at high speed. I put some foam tape on the roof, but will be splitting some black vacuum hose to put on the lower edge of the fairing when I have a chance.
