Has anyone had any success with replacing the carpet in their Pilot? I've seen a couple of sites that provide the carpet, but wanted to know if it were worth replacing.
I had a leak in my roof rack that ran down my C-Pillar and flooded the car floor numerous times before I was able to find and correct the issue. Now the carpet is, in my opinion ruined and needs to be replaced. Just wanted to see if anyone has done this replacement before and if it worked well, was worth it, etc... thanks, |

Can't recall it having to be done, but its really important that the carpet and underlayment come out. Otherwise mold will develop. The water can also rust the floor pan.
Shouldn't be too hard, probably requires removal of seats and perhaps some trim. Might be worth talking to a bodyshop about it.... $35 an hour might be worth it....

Well, it've not heard of it being done specifically on the Pilot, but my MIL's Civic had a screwed up AC drain hose after a warranty repair on the AC system. We didn't spot the problem (it rarely has a passenger) for a couple of months when it got nasty and moldy so they had to remove the entire carpet, underlay and all, shampoo it, dry it and reinstall it. Worked like a charm though, you wouldn't know it wasn't a brand new carpet and we've never had even a whiff of moldy/mildew-ey smell.
Anyway, if you're going to do the labor yourself and are prepared to replace a few plastic fasteners that you'll inevitably break along the way, I'd say go for it. Just make sure you buy the underlay as well if it's separate. It also allows you to check for any corrosion on the wiring loom and connectors that you could potentially put a stop to. And if you do decide to do it, promise me you'll take pictures

If I do end up doing it, I will make sure to document the procedure and post. I was planning on buying the underlayment as well, as it was thoroughly soaked as well.
Thanks for the help |

Labor-wise, the job will be long winded, but not terribly technically challenging. Be careful of the wiring and connectors under the seats, those connectors can be a bugger to get apart after 8 years getting comfortable together. Part of the reason to take lots of photos is so that you have a reference when you're starting to wonder what in the heck goes _here_ again. Unlike regular carpeting, you can reasonably expect the replacement to be nicely fitted with holes in all the right places as well.
Of course, you might prefer to just pull the existing carpet out and have it professionally cleaned, maybe with a new underlay. What are the parts prices like?

I'll have to look again, but I want to say that new carpet with underlayment was only $150. I'll have to find the site again. I was considering just cleaning it, but I've cleaned it before (without replacing the underlayment) and didn't have great success. I just want to start new and see where that gets me. I figure it's relatively cheap! Unless I'm getting what I pay for with a price like that, if you know what I mean.
