Installing roof rails on LX - Honda Pilot

Has anyone tried installing a set of roof rails on the LX (it does not come with it). Is this a DIY job or does it require a pro? Dealer wants $159 labor + $421 parts.

You don't say if you have a first or second gen Pilot. This thread is for first gen.

I installed the roof rails on my 05 LX and it was not difficult at all, but does take some time to do. Only slightly tricky part is cutting the metal gutter covers to size with a hacksaw. Make sure you measure twice and cut once. Also, buy new plastic clips for the gutter covers because they are really only one time use. I broke most of them when removing them. I found my LX roof rail set on Ebay for about $100 but it was slightly used. Did not come with the attaching bolts but found some nice stainless ones at Home Depot.
