Default Why do you need to disconnect the battery

as the first step in installing the factory tow wiring harness.

The directions I downloaded require that disconnect as the first step, which seems unneccesary to me...it's just a plug in installation so why bother with having to reprogram your electronics because you disconnect the battery. Is this just CYA thing on Hondas part or is there a valid reason to have to cut the power?

10mm wrench and remember when you disconnect it's BLACK FIRST and then RED LAST.

When you connect, is't RED FIRST and BLCAK LAST.

Mostly CYA and protection from bad parts and dumb installers.

Prevent grounding, arching, sparks, etc. Idiots can cause trouble if the battery remains connected. Main threat is shorting to ground.
