I installed a pair of Monroe Sensa -Trac load adjusting shocks on my 05 grand caravan, and I love them. They eliminated the rear end sag I would get when we loaded up the van for vacation. I looked up the pilot on the monroe site and they don't manufacture these shocks for the pilot. Without going int alot of detail, I came across a spec sheet and discovered that the Monroe 58620 has very similar specs to the 37246 (Monroe's standard shock for the pilot). So my question is, are these shocks only suitable for leaf spring suspensions or what? I would appreciate feedback from anyone with expertise in this area.
In case someone wants to know why I care about the shocks vs air bags. It seems to me that swapping out shocks is easier and more user friendly than the the alternative (I might be way out of line here, thats why I'm asking). One more thing. I have had the Pilot for 2 weeks now and I love it. Great rig. |

Looked at the Monroe catalog.
I immediately noticed the different mounting codes of the two shocks. LS28 for the Dodge and LS39 for the Pilot. The mounts appear to be different sizes. Additionally, there may not be enough clearance for the spring to fit on the Pilot. Other unknowns are the valving of the two shocks. Lastly, the Dodge shocks will create a bone rattlin' ride due to the additional 1200 load capacity. Airbages might not be such a bad idea after all.

I have no idea about load ability, but the addition of a spring will make it stiffer for sure. The caravan was so soft from the factory that it actually improved the ride! How much will it effect the Pilots ride, I think there is only 1 way to find out.
As far as the mounting bushings, you will note in the chart that both LS28 and LS39 have the same "B" measurement of 1 5/8 and that the difference in the "A" is 1/2 as opposed to 12MM which makes the load adjusting shocks mount bushing .7 MM thinner. I think once the weather gets warmer and I Get around to installing the tow hitch, I might poke around to see if it might fit. I'm sure the load adjusting shock will require more clearance. Might be a interesting experiment, maybe.
