Hi all, first post for me.
![]() I've been researching this for the last 2 weeks since I got my 2007 EX-L RES. I just purchased a VVME HID Digital Slim Kit and was wondering if I need a relay harness or not. From my research, on most boards and with most sellers they all used a plug and play type with no relay. Mtech sells a kit for H11 bulbs that does not require a relay, and the consensus is that if it's a single beam kit and there is no DRL, you don't need a relay. What do you guys think of all this? Please provide some actual experience with this topic. Does anyone have a kit installed on a 2006-2008 (H11 Headlight) without the relay and how is it? Last edited by cech; 09-14-2010 at 09:32 AM. |

Thanks for the info!!
Received the package yesterday and installed it last night. Works great, easy install and well worth it. Considering I paid less then a set of PIAA H11 bulbs, I'm very happy with this mod. ![]() Now, I'm just waiting for the LED bulbs to change the parklights. |

I would install a relay. I have the kbcarstuff/xenon depot and it came with relays. You may not have problems now but you may later. The initial draw of power is what is going to burn your wires out some day.

If you don't have an older pilot with out the h11 bulbs correct but the volt digital kits for h11 do not ship with relays. I had a 9005 kit in my old blazer and it came with relays it also wasnt a digital ballast system either

As "hkellogg" stated, 2006+ Pilots have a H11 single beam bulb for lows only. Canadian models lke mine have DRL on the High beam 9005 bulb. A relay is required for anything but a single beam application, it has nothing to do with melting wires.
HID kits draw 35W and it needs to be stable, the ballast provides the "initial charge" to the igniter and then to the bulb. I sent emails to 3 suppliers of digital slim HID kits for single beam applications and they all replied as no relay required. My original question was to provide first hand experience with using a HID kit without a relay on 2006-2008 models, and hkellogg did just that. Last edited by cech; 09-23-2010 at 02:36 PM. |

Agree, I have hids on my 2006 Pilot with a relay. Better to spend $15 on a relay than to have to replace wiring later on.

I really plan to get the Volt HID kit for my 07 Honda Pilot, I was wondering if there is a full writeup on the 07 Honda Pilot HID installation. Also I really want a WHITE light, so is the 4300k better or 6000k? I am afraid that the HID will get on fire, is there any way to prevent this from happening? Is this only for low beam only? What about the fog lights, can I do HID for the fog lights also?
Thanks! Leo |

6000k has the blue tint, trust me 4300 doesnt have the look of the stock bulbs at all. that fool doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. All OEM Hid that come from the factory on lexus, acura, mercedes, audi, porsche, GM, lincoln, cadillac, all are 4100k or 4300k. Phillips doesn't make 6000k Bulbs, neither does osram and those are the only bulbs used in OEM applications. I've never seen a phillips d1s, d2s, d2r, d3s or d3r bulb throw off light that is 6000k.

^^ That!
You have to look into the spectrum of light in order to understand the colors of what bulb makers are saying... ie this morning I saw another Pilot on the road, as I passed them I saw their headlight output looking dim as anything and BLUE, my best guess, they were using the 'cool blue' sylvania halogens... horrid output. If you look for 4100-4500k color spectrum, you should be ok... getting much higher you will end up with blue/purple tint to the light.
