Hi,
We bought a used 2003 Honda Pilot EX. We used to have a cheap Bell cycle carrier for my sedan before this. It worked reasonably well - easy and quick to install on the trunk of the sedan. But I am afraid to install it on the Pilot because of the top spoiler. There doesn't appear to be metal there for the hooks and anyways the straps would go over the spoiler so the weight of the cycle could potentially break the spoiler. Is there any cheap option? We take our bikes out maybe 3-4 times a year so I am not looking to spend a lot right now. Thanks a lot, Gaurav |

Best approach will be an aftermarket hitch plus a class three tow hitch carrier.

I recommend the hitch too, far more useful, but if you intend to tow, make sure you get the AT and PS cooler (same as radiators). I have a Saris hitch rack on the wife's 09 Touring and I would recommend it, but they decided to go with a 1 1/4" to 2" insert/converter which is cheap and isn't even close to a 2" receiver size, thus you have to use their threaded bolt to secure it down, which if you want a lock, then you have to buy a separate threaded bolt and lock from them. The rack is fantastic, but I located a 2" receiver part for the Saris rack instead, costing me more, but fits better. In the end, Yakima still has a better system for the hitch.

How about just removing the spoiler? There is metal underneath. And then I could use the
cycle carrier that I have with straps that go on the top and bottom? Any ideas if I can remove the spoiler by myself and if that is legal and safe to do? Thanks again! |

I don't know the laws, but since you would also be removing the third brake which is mandatory on all new cars, my guess is that it would be technically illegal.
