I had a remote starter (aftermarket - AstroStart) installed on my 06 Pilot EXL-NAV. Everything seems to be working fine except for one thing.
After I remote start the car, i unlock the door, once inside i put the key into the ignition and switch it to the right position, all doors are closed and I am ready to drive. As soon as I hit the brake to engage the car (either to R ro D), the rear hatch is unlocked (you can hear the sound), the dome lights comes on(and turns off eventially), and the Driver side door open status flashes on and goes away. Also, if any of the doors are Locked before I press on the brake, they all get Unlocked. I took it to the installer and they tell me that it's due to honda's security bypass requirements. It's not a huge deal but it sure is kinda annoying. I am wondering if any 06 pilot owners out there with a remote starter have similar issues. thanks for the help! -smokeybear

Which AstroStart model do you have? Based on your description, it sounds like they installed it wrong. Here's how it's supposed to work: once you turn the ignition to ON and step on the brake, the doors will lock (if the alarm has that feature) and control will be restored to the driver (alarm/remote start is disabled at that point). You shouldn't hear the tailgate unlock, the domelight should turn off immediately, if on previously, and the door status light should not even flash.

I installed a Code Alarm remote starter myself in my 06 Pilot and I don't have the same issues you're having. When I installed my unit, I used both the HODL & PKH34 modules from Bypasskits.com in order to interface with the immobilizer system and data bus.
When I remote start my vehicle I have to use my key to open the door, at which time the interior lights come on. Once I insert my key and turn it to the ON position and tap the brake, the interior light goes out, my doors lock (which I programmed it to do) and everything is just as if I started it normally using the key. My guess is that your installer either connected to the wrong wires or it's configured to use negative pulses rather than positive (or vise versa) or he used the incorrect bypass modules. I would take it back and complain since his answer regarding the Honda security system is totally bogus. |
