Question first time wax?

I know this is going to sound old school, but do you still have wait a few months before waxing a new car to let the paint set? showing my age i suppose!

I always do.

I usually wait till about the time I want to sell the car.

Default wax

I've been using that wax as you dry stuff on my other cars, it seems to work pretty well, and couldn't be easier.

The pilot is only a few weeks old, so I haven't even thought about waxing yet.

Minimum of 30 days is what I heard. But who knows. Some cars sit on the lot months before being purchased by a retail consumer. Mine was a 8/04 build according to the door jam. I purchased and took delivery 8/31. I waxed the entire body with Eagle One Nano wax in mid September.

I look at waxing often as therapy.... it lets you get intimate with your vehicle.

Don't let my wife read that last statement. She might get jealous!

Waiting before you wax applies to only to respray, and in that case you should wait 90 days. This gives the paint a chance to gas off. Waxing too early might cause some of these solvents to get trapped, which will result in a permanent clouding of the clearcoat.

You don't have to wait to wax a new car--the paint is heat cured, and no more gassing off will occur.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that views an afternoon of washing/waxing as "driveway therapy". I had a great Sunday a couple of weeks ago, got to mow the yard AND wash BOTH vehicles...was so theraputic, I could hardly get out of bed the next morning!

If you're an "old timer", look into some newer products before ya dig out that old can of Turtle Wax paste thats been in the garage since your first car with a cassette deck. A search in the threads here will show a variety of products good for newer clear coat finishes. I, too, used the Nanowax and liked the results, just a bit of elbow grease is required to remove it.

Do most of you remove the wax by hand? Does anyone recommend the use of a buffing machine?

I remove the wax by hand because I only do 2 vehicles twice a year. I figure buying an orbital would require a LOT more waxing than I do to justify the cost.

The day I got mine, 6 weeks ago, 2004 sage brush, applied KLASSE All In One (my preference) to remove anything that you may not see but can feel (run your fingers lightly over surface) as the car has sat on the lot for some time, immediately followed with KLASSE glaze. BE SURE THE SURFACE IS CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN before you attempt anything. Do not use anything but hand application unless you're really experienced or you'll burn up your clearcoat. Can be tricky using but do a small panel/section at a time. Results are phenomenal. The glaze will oulast any wax. After 5-7 days of cure apply a second coat for a deep lustre. Not a Pilot out here when standing next to mine that has a deeper look. Wax is meant to be applied every 60-90 days to maintain properly while glaze can be applied twice yearly and in my opinion, the glaze truly gives a better and deeper look and an overall slickness to the paint. Also when running your fingers over it (LIGHTLY) you can feel the difference. SO, in answer to your question, DO IT TODAY.........Protect the investment.

I also remove wax by hand as I don't wax my cars enough anymore. With two little ones, I just have the time anymore

Yup, I try to do the same, except I usually wait until May. Get them protected for winter, then clean up the stuff left after winter. It's warm enough then not to have to wear a jacket to wash and wax, too.

Mequiar's New Polymer wax. I just put the first coat of wax on my wife's Pilot. I thought I'd try Meguiar's new polymer wax. I liked it because the packaging stated "no dust" residue left and of course it's the best wax they've ever made blah blah blah.

The good: I've never used a liquid was before. It went on extremely easily. It seemed to take no time at all to apply. Removal was almost as easy. As advertised there was no dust residue left.

The bad: I'm not sure if I waited long enough for it to dry. It came off really easily excect the hood seemed to leave streaks behind. I reapplied and let it dry again and removed. It doesn't have that slick just waxed feel. I always love seeing how the towel just glides over the car when finished. The car looks good but it should it's brand new and clean as a whistle. I'm just not convinced without that slick feel that there's anything protecting the paint and it will last. I guess we'll see.

I'm tempted to rewax with some carnuba based stuff. Any ideas on whether that would be bad after having already applied the Meguiar's polymer based stuff?
