Default What to use to get sap off my hood?

I had parked under a pine tree and it dripped sap all over my hood. I tried just washing it and wiping it down but there is still residue left on the hood. Any one have any suggestions, that will not harm the paint? Thanks in advance.

You may want to check out this tread from autopia.org. Or you can use their search feature and find other answers.

Good luck.

Either Bug and Tar Remover or rubbing alcohol will work.

I'll second the bug & tar remover suggestion. Turtle Wax makes one that works great.

WD40 is a great bug & tar remover, too, especially on those rusty bugs.

And no more squeaky bugs, either.

You might try using a clay bar before using a bug and tar remover on your paint finish. It's a gentle way to get pollutants off the finish. Body shops use clay bars to remove overspray and such so I'm guessing clay would work for sap.

ccsun - I agree w/ ammdaddy, try using claybar before using any chemicals to remove the tree sap.

Another great product for removing sap is either "Goo be Gone" or "Sticky out" from elmers. Removes tape adhesive and things like that. My wife's Pilot had a sap streak about 6" long down the driver's from quarter panel. That stuff and a little elbow grease and the streak was history. No harm to the clear coat at all!
