Default Rust Proofing from the dealer

I did a search about rust proofing and i know alot of you say that the pilot is protected from the factory and we do not need additional rust protection.

The thing i'm confused about is I got offered to do a rust proof at the dealership when I ordered the car. Is this any different?

If the factory had protection on the car, why are they offering rust protection at the dealerships? isn't that kinda pointless? or just a way to rip ppl off ?

I assume most of you didnt' do this?
I do live in toronto so it does snow alot around here.

If you want, the Dealer can apply a paint sealant to protect the clear coat too...

(I think you answered your own question.)

  • Probably not
  • Make $
  • Yes
  • Yes, again.
  • I would guess that most members did not buy the dealer rustproofing.

But will they install one of those Tornado dohickeys to increase performance and gas mileage?

its a gimmick.

does more harm than good.

the if its not broke dont fix it.

dealer is trying to get more money.

the car is still gonna rust if you live near the ocean or snow.

under carriage protection - it comes with it you dont need any more

the scotch guard is the same thing.

go to the store and buy yourself a can for 5 bucks and do it yourself and save yourself a bundle.

This is why I call them "stealerships"!

Get the Consumer Reports latest auto issue, and it should have the do's and don'ts of buying a car these days...like no rustproofing or paint protectant, etc.

My brother sold cars for a while (sold me my Toyota SR-5) but he couldn't put up with all the crap the sales manager was doing to screw people out of their money.
