Default What's your take on waxing?

Recently, a friend of mine has warned me about his exp. with waxing. He has a plum Dodge Charger and has just detailed the car from a local detail shop. The problem he has exp. is the color of his car changes after the waxing process. He asks me if the car's color has faded a bit. Said that he would never have the car wax again. FYI, he is a car fanatic and a neat dude. Hand-car wash and vacuum bi-weekly. Every time I see his cars, they're always clean and shiny. So this waxing problem has me thinking. Is is waxing will make your car's color/paint fading since the clear coat will be remove eventually after each wax? I need some professional advices and opinions from those who have done this regularly before I take my Pilot to a detail shop. Thank a lots, guys.

That shouldn't happen and you're friend is maybe a bit overly sensitive.

That's what I thought, too. Maybe he's a bit paranoia

with todays paints you really dont ever have to wax a car.my 09 has 55,000 miles and never waxed. still shines, and paint is still "smooth"" i got rid of a 1998 explorer after 12 years and 180,000 miles and waxed it maybe 3 times. it still looked great after a wash.

I like this product. Turtle Ice Synthetic Spray Detailer.. I just spray and wipe with the towel. It is working great on my white honda pilot.. I don't even need to wash my car.

I think the OPs friend is being a bit overly sensitive. I've waxed a few cars before and never noticed a fade in the paint color. And I don't necessarily agree with hondapilotjim. While newer paints do shine well I still think you should wax it once a year or so to upkeep that shine.

Exactly, a shiny paint doesn't necessarily means its protected. You use wax for protection first and shine second, IMHO.

I owned 02 civic and when i traded it, its flawless. I waxed that car every two months with Meguairs. Wax have been proven to protect paint. Ask any autobody shop that knows the business and I think they'll agree. I would stay away from the $7 carwaxes.

Absolutely agree! Try to stay away from tree sap and exposure to the sun for too long, those kill the smoothness and shininess of the car's paint. Lesson learned

With cheaper car waxes, there's a tradeoff of either lack of durability, or ease of use.

Myself, I use the regular old standard Turtle Wax paste. It's hard as heck to use to get an even shine, but I'm used to using it, so it doesn't bother me. Lasts for a LONG time.
