Question mildew

how do you remove black mildew by the door weatherstripping and the rear tailgate weatherstripping. i can't scrub it off and was wondering what cleaners or home-made solutions there are to get rid of this problem?

In a well ventilated location, use paper towel soaked the bleach solutin and cover the mildew area. Spray more bleach to paper towel if it's going to dry. Wait about 15 mins then srub off with old toothbrush.

Depend on how bad the mildew is, may need to repeat the process.

Hey, welcome fish123!

Trust me.... about 1 cup of amonia to 3 cups of water. Scale it down to whatever amount you need. 1:3 mix 3 being the water.

Somewhere around here I have a thread with the engine compartment from my 1991 Nissan 240SX. It sat in the humid, hot summer months down in Houston, Tx last year and got pretty mildewed. Even went through hurricane Ike and it just sat and sat and sat.....

Sprayed the engine compartment with the mix and it came out looking damn near brand new.

I also am blessed by God to have a boat. Lots of mildew build up on vinyl surfaces as well as other areas. My mix has cleaned up the mildew immediately as I sprayed it on.

The amonia solution 1:3 sound very handy, seems faster than the bleach. Next time I will try that first.

Just make sure that you NEVER do both. Or it could very well be the last thing you ever do. Just google Chlorine Gas.

Never mix bleach with ammonia or any detergents or cleaners containing ammonia, however. Bleach and ammonia in combination can be lethal. People have actually died from breathing the fumes from such a mixture. Many household cleaners contain ammonia.

In my opinion, a diluted mix of water and amonia is the ideal mildew killer.

As stated b4, don't mix any chlorine with amonia!!!!
