Default Simoniz scratch remover

Has anyone tried this for scratch removal?

If so, can some please provide some reviews.

https://www.buyfixit.com/ver6/index.asp

Looks cheap and easy but I don't know if it works.

Thanks.

Never tried the Simoniz. I keep a bottle of Kit Scratch Out on hand, and it works reasonably well.

I've had pretty good luck with Meguiar's SCRATCH X.

I'm sure every product out there has it's limitations. Each is a compromise of ease of use, least chance of damaging the clear-coat, and overall effectiveness of removing a scratch. It worked for mine, but I'm sure will not work for all. Post back the results of how the Simoniz product works as I'm curious how they compare.

I just used this to remove (hide) some pretty deep scratches on my wife's CR-V last week. Worked really well. I used one of those little $20.00 6" orbital polishers from Wall-Mart.

If the scratches are not bad there is a more mild polishing formula.

If you buff the scratches, be sure to wash and wax the areas afterwards.

Good Luck

You're not actually hiding the scratches by using the rubbing compound, you're actually removing some of the clearcoat that the scratches have made. Rubbing compound is bad news IMO.

I learned that rubbing compound was bad news on the hood of my 2005 Pilot. I knew it removed the clear coat but I thought I had a good feeling as to the limitations of it.

I obviously did not.

My advise is only use rubbing compound if your 1. crazy enough to risk ruining your pilot and 2. know a good body shop to repaint your damage(do not ake that the wrong way just speaking from experience)

Default Try Quixx for scratch removal

I tried, with reasonable success, a product called Quixx, which is approved by the German TUV and thus has some credibility. It's a two step system, with two little creams and some very fine sandpaper, and worked well on a scratch on my Pilot. Thw website is http://www.quixxusa.com/ but I've seen it on E-Bay, Amazon and lots of other places

I unfortunately had an opportunity to try the Scratch X, and I like it better than the Kit Scratch Out I have been using.

hahah what are the chances that somebody else uses this. I was skeptical of it at first as it was in wally's world, but I used it and it works wonders even on some deep scratches. For $2.99 cannot beat that.

Meguiar's has released ScratchX 2.0, which is supposed to work much better/easier than the original ScratchX. Unfortunately, I can't get it up here in Canada, at least yet...

ScratchX works for me, but took several applications (like 6) and a fair amount of pressure. The thing I liked about it was that it will not damage your paint at all (when used properly), unlike rubbing compound. I made a mess with that stuff once...never again....

I also use this product. Its good for the price of it. Also the paint will not fade using this product.

I think the success of scratch removing depends more on the kind of scratch than particular brand. If the scratch is shallow, most of fine, less abrasive compounds would work well. If it is a little deeper then one needs to remove more surrounding material using less fine compound and running the risk of hurting the finish. And there are some scratches which call for the paint job or ignoring it.
I also heard well about Quixx. Never used it.

Good point. It all depends on the nature of the scratch. In order to remove any scratch, you have to remove the surrounding paint.
Typically, if you can feel the scratch with the edge of you fingernail, it is pretty deep and will take some work to remove. In some cases, you may not be able to fulloy remove a scratch, but can remove enough paint around a scratch to lessen it's appearance. In those cases, you may want to try touch up paint like Langka or Dr. Colorchip...
