Default My battle with Oil/Tar

Well, I finally got around to cleaning up the oil that was on the side of the Pilot. Not too hard to get done. It was definitely more successful than my speaker installation on Sunday! I used very hot water with dish soap and some bug/tar removal spray. Here are the before and after photos.

By the way, it was dang cold out there! One of my neighbors asked me if I was crazy. "It's not so bad..." was my reply, of course that was about 5 minutes into the process! Oh well, at least the Pilot is clean again.

The dish soap will strip any wax you might have had on there, so be sure to rewax.

Yeah, I will get that done this week. There was pretty much nothing I could clean it up with that would not take the wax off... A couple people recommended WD-40, but I wasn't comfortable spraying that on the paint. Dish soap and bug/tar remover seemed milder, and yet still effective.

I hear ya. I've been fighting the goo myself. I've notice that this Pilot really tends to spray the stuff wildly (even all over the back and even TOP), while my Passat tends to keep it confined to mudflaps or a few inches beyond.

Not much for aerodynamics on the Pilot!

really great product for just such an application is Stoners "Tarminator", wont take the wax or the clear coat off and its just a simple spray on and wipe off. Great stuff from a great company of products.

Beautiful job!

I had the misfortune of getting tar and grease on my Accord while driving on a newly paved road several years ago. Believe it or not, creamy peanut butter worked like a charm. Dissolved the mess and it cleaned up with soapy water easily. Easy and cheap.
