Default Need help on cleaning products

Hi all,

I've just got my '07 Pilot. The dealer put the shiny stuff on the tires that splashed on to the sides of the vehicle and the sides of the rear bumper. When I got home, I tried to wipe it off but that stuff wouldn't come off. Looks like that stuff leaves a light brown stain like oil soaking into the clear coat of the paint. Is there any cleaning products that can take that stuff off without damaging the paint? Please advise.

Thanks much.

Bummer! Have you asked for the dealer to correct this? And, which dealer is it (we want names so we can avoid them ).

Good luck!
Larry.

I purchased mine from Capitol Honda. I have not contacted them yet on this matter as I thought I could save time doing it right myself.

a lot of the dealers down here use Coconut milk.... It does not usually wipe off as it has some oily properties to it, but with a little mild soap it usually comes right off. They seem to love to just shoot the motor with it too, after a steam cleaning to make it look all shiny, but I usually keep them from touching mine.

Hopefully that is all they used in your case.

I should have guessed. I've also had a LOT of trouble with Capitol Honda and will never go back there. They seem to be unable to do anything to my car without damaging something else.

The final straw for me was when one of their drivers (while moving my car) had a ball-point pen in their left hip pocket and wrote on my leather drivers seat with it. To their credit they accepted responsibility from the beginning and ended up having it reupholstered at Bascom Trim (a really good upholstery shop). But, I'll still never go back there. I currently wouldn't trust them to put air in my tires!

I now use Honda of Stevens Creek for service on my '06 Pilot and my girlfriends '06 Civic. They're not perfect but they get the job done and don't damage my car!

I also posted a listing of ratings of Honda Dealers in the Bay Area in this thread.

Good luck!
Larry.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. I'm also thinking about using the Bugs and Tar Remover or some light buffing cream. We shall see.

Guess I won't go there for service then. Thanks for the heads up.

Where exactly is Bascom Trim? The front leather seats in my wife's old Accord needs to be reupholstered badly. Are they expensive? Thanks.

They're in Santa Clara here. I don't know if I'd say expensive. Certainly more than others but well worth the extra $$$. But, it's certainly free to get an estimate .

Good luck!
Larry.

I would be interested in hearing your stories since I use Capitol Honda.

Here is a quick summary of the problems I had with Captiol Honda and the Pilot.

1) They scratched the paint but did own up to it and fixed it.
2) After they reinstalled my rear bumper cover, it was missing a screw.
3) When they replaced said screw they used a screw that was too long and it ended up almost poking thru the bumper cover
4) I asked for all 3 wipers to be replaced. When I pickup up the Pilot, the service advisor told me all the wipers were replaced including the rear. When I checked, the rear was not replaced. Turns out the part was not in stock.
5) Capitol Honda installed my backup sensors. Later my side brake lights did not work. They assumed it was my fault and said the earliest they could see it was a week later or I could leave it with them for several days and they would work on it when they had time. Had to complain to get them to see it the next day.
6) I asked them to price match an oil change from another Honda dealer. They refused. When I returned I showed them their own coupon stating they do price match afterwhich the price was adjusted.
7) The Bumper Flares were installed incorrectly and had to be reinstalled.

....
To avoid thread drift (this thread is on how to clean off the tire dressing) I created a new thread to answer the question about Capitol Honda here:
Issues with Capitol Honda

Later,
Larry.

I found the same thing on my new 06 I bought in August. There was some oily drops on the lower rear bumper, which I just wiped off and thought it was gone. The next day I found there were a dozen or so light brown spots covering that area the would not come off. Even tried a polishing compound/scratch remover. The "stain" seemed to be in the clearcoat rather then on the surface of it. I gave up trying to remove them and didn't really want the dealer trying as they usually just make matters worse and would have probably ended up repainting the bumper (which I did not want). Anyways, after about a month the stains apparently faded away and are no longer visible so you may want to wait and see if they fade on there own.

Thanks for the heads-up. I was going to look for some special cleaning solutions to take care of the spots but just haven't had the time. I'll check the spots out again on the next wash.

Thanks.

Try Greeze-Off. I used it on my sister's old Altima to get rid of an oil stain on her hood that had never come off. It took the stain right out and did not seem to damage the paint.
