Default Aquapel vs Rain-X

Has anyone here used PPG's Aquapel before? I wonder how it compared against Rain-X. Any opinions?

Aquapel lasts a bit longer than RainX. It is also supposed to be a bit easier on the wiper blades. If you don't mind paying the extra money then Aquapel is nice. RainX does the trick and just requires that you reapply it every 4 or 5 months. For my money Aquapel doesn't add enough value for the price difference. I can get a couple years worth supply of RainX for the price of one application of Aquapel.

My car is garaged at home and at work, and I'm lucky to get 2 months from an application of Rain-X. More if I'm using Rain-X washer fluid too.

I don't even bother with applying the Rain-X anymore. I just dump the additive into the washer fluid and it seems to do the trick.

I use the gallon jugs of Rain-X washer fluid. Is there an additive to dump in regular fluid? Does it work out cheaper?

I found it. I'll have to see if it's less expensive that just using the Rain-X washer fluid.

I've used both the additive and the washer fluid and they never worked nearly as well as applying the Rain-X directly. Also, I find that Rain-X lasts longer with each successive application. First-time users sometimes are disappointed because the first app only lasts a few weeks. If you use it regularly, each app eventually holds up pretty well for several months. It also depends on how much rain you get and how much you use the wipers.

That makes sense. My xB is just over 3 months old, and I did the 3rd application yesterday. Of course, it's been monsoon season here for the last 10 days.

I don't know how you guys are applying it, but if I don't get 3 months out of a coat of RainX then I wonder what I did wrong. I'm not using the spray kind or the wipes. This is the stuff that you squirt directly on the glass and wipe on. I'm not using anything in the wiper tank either. Just straight RainX on the glass works for me.

I spray it on a blue "shop towel" then wipe it on. Why get Rain-X all over the car when you just want to get it on the windshield.

I have used Rain-X Bug Remover Windshield Washer Fluid for a year and noticed a white hazy residue in the areas of the glass where the wipers don't wipe. My guess is that the fluid is like wax and the wipers clean the wax off meanwhile the unwipped areas are white. Also noticed that it gets oversprayed to the paint and that attracts dirt so I end up having a white border around my windshield. I have no effect on the wiper blade life, I change the wiper blade every year.

Honestly, the Rain-X Original application doesn't seem to last more than a week for me with wiper use. It also causes a blur when I do apply it and run the wipers dry later that day. I will be testing Aquapel to see if it lasts longer and if it has a negative side. According to the Aquapel website, the 2004 Lexus RX330 has Aquapel applied from factory. Here's the link: http://www.ppg.com/gls_aquapel/news11.htm

Here, it rains every other day from 1PM to 4PM.

Maybe that explains why the blades on my brand new '04 RX 330 chattered. If there was Aquapel on there, I couldn't tell it, unless the application of Rain-X over it screwed things up. Very early on, the dealer replaced the first wiper inserts under warranty.

Looking forward to your report on Aquapel.

It doesn't get all over the car when you do it that way. You just squirt it at the top of the windshield and let it run down. I use a blue shop towel as well to just wipe it on as it drips. It doesn't get on anything but the glass. I do this before I wash the car so that when I'm washing I can just get the haze off the windshield while I'm at it.

I was just busting your chops. Hence the . I don't spray Trim Shine all over my car to clean a little wax off the trim, either.
