Default 1st Time Waxing Question

Hi. I have brand new black 2006 Honda Pilot. I live in NJ. When is the best time to apply for the 1st-time wax and what to look / look-out for?

How about "detailing" spray? Can you use that every wash or is there an interval too? Thanks.

I find the clear coat on the new Hondas I have purchased to last a long time out here in So Cal. I use Detailers about once a quarter which is a lite wax, but I would imagine on the east coast you would need to put a good coat of wax on much sooner than that.

So, you only use the detailer products as needed to keep the paint shine and the waxing for 6 months interval at least....

well, I have great weather out here, no Salted roads, extreme hot or cold so with 14 months of use and about 13,000 miles I have not applied any wax to date, only detailer ever 3 months, but I also hand wash it every week to keep the particles off, which I am sure makes a difference. Most people that see my Pilot think its brand new still. The clear coat is still extremely good and it beads like new in the rain.

Ok. I'll keep your washing habits.
Here, it's very different since it has its extreme temps and salted roads. I will give the pilot a wash every week with no detailing agents and possible 2-3 months interval of detailing and 6-8 months interval for waxing. How does that sound? Thanks again.

We recently purchased an '06 Pilot. The first thing I did was to take it home, give it a good bath, and then apply a coat of 1Z Glanz Wax. It's not a wax, it's a liquid that comes in a quart-sized metal can. It's from Germany, and it's supposedly the #1 wax/sealer in Europe.

Recent wax/sealant comparisons have placed it #2 in shine, durability, etc.
Zaino Z-2 PRO Show Car Polish came in first. I'm gonna give the Zaino's a try next.

The only time I use detailing spray is when I clay the car, or to remove bird stuff between washes.

Thumbs up ZAINO'S IS GREAT!!!!

I put Zaino's wax on my 03 Pilot 2 weeks ago. I love the stuff. I used about 1/4 of the wax/polish in every bottle. I am buying the detailing spray & leather detailer on Monday. My friend brought over his Acura last night and I detailed it with Zaino's. He purchased some of their products today he liked it so much.

I would recommend this to everyone. If you have any questions about this stuff feel free to pm me. You can also check out their website and it gives you very detailed instructions.

I'm bias to Klasse AIO & SG. I also apply P21S carnauba wax on top of 2 coats of Klasse SG.

Klasse usually last 6 months & P21S carnauba wax usually last 1 month.

I did the wash, clay bar, wash, Klasse AIO, Klasse SG routine yesterday. Only one coat of SG so far. Can I wash again later, then do another coat of SG?

I also have some S100 that I got at the Harley dealer, but I may pass on that given its short lifespan.

I did that many years ago w/ good results but I still prefer applying 2 coats of SG w/ 12hrs between coats.

I've applied 2nd and 3rd coats of SG after washing. No problems and excellent results. Just when you think the shine can't get any better, the next application of SG makes the paint look even more amazing.

I also purchased S100 from the local Harley dealer. But I haven't used it yet.

I would wash and "clay" the vehicle before applying a good sealer like 1Z or Zano Brothers.
