Default Wax Residue (Meguir's Classic Gold

Waxed my new Pilot last week and after buffing off, I keep finding was residue. Know I might have missed a spot but this is all over. Washed with Turtle wash cleaner and waxed with Meguires Classic Gold using sponge applicator. Buffed with old t-shirts.

I don't have any problems w/ residue using Klasse AIO, Klasse High Gloss Sealant and P21S carnauba wax.

Try using micro fiber instead of old t-shirts to buff.

I have used Meguiars gold class for the last 3 years and haven't seen that at all. I do know that you have to make sure it is absolutely dry before buffing off or it will look streaky. And I use old T-shirts also.

Yeah, make sure the wax is all dry before wiping it all off. Have an adult beverage or 2 before you wipe off each section. And yes, using a quality microfiber towel works best because it will trap more wax residue than an old t-shirt will, but you'll still need to turn the towel over freqently for best performance.

Thanks all. Yeah, it was a little late when I did it (11 PM! But it was that or never.). I will pick up a microfiber cloth or two when I got get some new wax. The Meguirs had cracked the corner when I dropped it a couple of months ago. Just had to pour from the bottom instead of the top. May try Eagle One, they seem to get good comments.

Hey Sporty,
I have used Eagle One (I assume you are talking about the Nano Wax?). It is like the Maguires NXT, but it seems to last a little longer. It lasts even longer if you put a Caranuba wax on top. These new generation waxes don't seem to last as long as the Caranuba in my opinion.
I think after this batch is over I am going to do what John802 is doing with the Klasse route, or dare I say Zano?

Best advice I ever read! By the time you finish wax residue will be the last thing you worry about!

Do you think if you went with just Caranuba wax, that would be enough by itself?
Any particular brand that is all Caranuba that you all prefer? I have used Meguire's Gold Class for years on my truck and was planning on using it on the wife's Pilot but if there is something that you like better, I'd like to give it a try.

Hello CaptainK. Welcome to the board.
Asking about wax will get you as many opinions as asking about which oil. The wax you use is good and I use it too. But what gets complicated is that some of us don't think that is enough. So on and on we go adding more of this and more of that to give it a deep shine. My wife says that the Pilot is 1" thicker all around because of all the wax I put on

Any way here are some interesting posts to get you started, and if you get bored, just do a search on polish, or wax and be prepared to read for a long time.
Cheers,

I am kind of a freak when it comes to a detailed Pilot.. mine gets hand washed every week and a good 1-2 hour detail right after. I really like the McGuire and Stoner products. For Wax I tend to stay away from anything other than a showroom "detail" spray for a new vehicle, they have the clear coat and once you start messing with it, you will always be messing with it to keep it up (kinda like shampooing your carpets at home I guess) When I do get to waxing it (I am 9 months into my 05 ownership and have only waxed the hood) I used the highest quality Carnuba I can find. Out here in So Cal our weather is so good most of the time that it has been fine. I had a Benz for 10 years and it looked almost as good the day I sold it as it did the day I bought it and it was pure white.. .a hard color to keep bright.. so it works for me

Thanks for the info and link fellas!

I know how oil threads can go (from being a moderator in another forum for my truck) and I don't want to do that

I just find myself wondering anymore if these new polishes are really any better then say the good old Caranuba Turtle Wax. Like you mentioned, the ending answer is always preference. So on an on it goes

Aahh, that explains it. Have been wondering since it was a quality wax (ok dropped the bottle last spring and cracked it and didn't want to throw it so stored it upside down).

Will make sure everything is dry next time. Thanks.
