Normally on a Honda I would probably not purchase the Honda Care warranty but since this is a new generation I am considering giving Hyannis Honda the $1300 for the 8 year / 120,000 mile $0 deductible warranty. My general thought process is 5 extra years of protection for $260 per year might be a little piece of mind since it's a new build and who knows what might go wrong.
Thoughts? IIRC, you can purchase it until there are 6,000 miles on the car.
You could easily spend that much if the central audio/information display unit ever needs to be replaced.
Would you expect your smartphone to operate trouble-free for the next 8 years?
Good points, and that is exactly what happened with my '05 MDX - the main unit died after 5 years and it was going to be ridiculously expensive to fix (thousands), glad I had the HondaCare on that one.
I can only imagine what the computerized beast in the new Pilot is going to cost to repair. And they changed it back to touch screen, which is more likely to have issues than the non-touch screen units.
Honda Care for my 2012 Pilot Touring (8 Year/120,000 miles, $0 Deductable) cost me $1,400.00 when I bought the car. At three years old when the steering rack failed, cost to replace = $0. Would have cost around $1,850.00 (includes the rental car which Honda Care paid for). I ALWAYS get Honda Care on my cars. Have never lost a nickel. Even if I never had a claim, for me it would be worth buying just to have peace of mind.
I always buy an extended warranty online unless the dealer matches it. I do that for all my vehicles.
The vehicles now are expensive to repair. One or two repairs after the 3 years will pay for it self.
In addition, I buy the maintenance package too since i don't do my oil change. The cost of the 30k and 60k maintenance pays for the plan itself. So it's like getting a free oil change for the life of the plan.
We just got a 2015 pilot and with the lease it comes with the honda care and maintenance package for the 3 years. These packages seem good to have, especially for the dealer when someone leases. Making sure the vehicle is in good condition with all the services done when its turned in and all. We have the option to have them certify it if we buy it at the end of the lease and get the honda care. Has anyone done this with their car? Or have an opinion on the worthiness of these options? Thanks
But...it's still Japanese technology. The time length of the these warranties will likely be the biggest factor. When's the last time your Sony stereo or tv went out? I haven't seen these tech gremlins on the 2009+ Pilot and that still had infotainment. It's really just a gamble, but in this case the odds are heavily in the manufacture's favor.
I'll probably go with the Hondacare warranty from Bernardi Honda, assuming they still sell them much cheaper than do the dealers. Paid $600ish for my 2011 Odyssey warranty and had $3,000 in unexpected repairs at 99,200 miles. I did get some pushback on the repairs. Not sure how common this is with Hondacare. I have bought 4 Hondas in the first year following a model changeover and typically buy these heavily discounted warranties. Didn't need it on my 2003 Accord. Would have definitely used it had I held on to my 2008 Accord longer and definitely needed it for my 2011 Ody.
$1300 gets you the 8/120k $0 deductible from Hyannis Honda online. I got the 7-120k for $1700 because I didn't do my research and the finance guy said it was a couple of hundred dollar difference to go up to 8/120k. I came back in three days later and threatened to cancel the warranty, so they gave me $300 in free accessories.
With the new ZF 9 speed tranny I'd get the warranty especially if you think you'll go 5 years or 60,000 miles. I've hears some issues on the ZF tranny when it first came out. I know it's used on other vehicles now, but it's new for the Honda and Acuras this year. I'm sure there will be some software tweaks coming out as I can feel some gear hunting happening when you're light on the throttle at low speeds. Floor it and it works great.
We got it as we put 56,000 miles on our RDX in three years! I'm already at 2500 miles in the three weeks we've had the Pilot.
Technically - every dealer could sell it for that but most probably do not. After I bought my CRV, I did research and found 3 dealerships in the US that are known for selling Honda Care at discount prices. Curry Honda, Hyannis Honda and Saccucci Honda. They don't make much of the warranty but apparently if they sell in volumes, there are financial benefits in doing so. I asked for quotes from all 3 and bought from Saccucci Honda. Hyannis Honda was cheaper but went into my junk mail folder. I was pleased with Saccucci Honda's service and everything went smooth.
My dealership would only sell 3rd party warranties so that is why I started searching. I think you have 6,000 miles (and a time period) to buy Honda Care at a lower price (and then it goes up). The 3rd party warranty my dealer was selling was $1500 and during signing the final papers, went down to $800. I still declined as I had a Toyota warranty previously and was glad I did and I knew others with a 3rd party warranty who had had the company go bankrupt or had problems using the warranty outside of their dealership despite what they said about everyone taking it.
It looks to be a full warranty. Google search it to see what it covers. It looks comprehensive but there are the usual exceptions (tires, brakes, etc...).
Coral, thanks for the info and link! I never buy extended warranties because I usually don't believe in them. But for $1300 to more than double the manufacturers warranty sounds like to good of a deal to pass up. Curry Honda is in my neighborhood so I will purchase it from them.
There is a curry honda here in Atlanta so that's who I thought you were referring to. Can I purchase Honda are from Hyannis honda even though I don't live anywhere near there?
Thank you for this info..... I am a bit confused with Honda Care. I bought Honda care this is my first Honda Vehicle. My Pilot came with one year free maintained at the NY Dealer I purchase the vehicle from. Now the question is With Honda care, if I ever need service, do I have to get service from the Honda dealer I purchase it from? Looking at www.saccuccihondacare.com it's alot cheaper like $600 less. Defenetely worth canceling and buying it again...

So I am just now finding out about Hyannis and their great price. I purchased the extended warranty for 1700. 6 years/120k miles. Is there like a 30 day period for me to get my money back and buy from Hyannis?
I think you have 60 days to cancel...not 100% sure.
Take the email you recieved from Hyannis Honda to your dealer and show them the price difference. Tell them you'll cancel and go with the other dealer unless they can price match. Getting them to give you credit on some accessories is the best way since they won't have to actually cut you a check.
So before you head in there go to Bernardi.com and get some accessories placed in your shopping cart that you want. I find they have the best prices. Always overestimate the total as well. For example go in and ask for $800 worth of parts and they typically say we can only do $500 then you pick and choose what to want.
Don't let them say dealer cost on parts because that equals only 15% off MSRP. That's why I say take the price list in from Bernardi. Also do the install yourself so you don't lose money on dealer labor costs. I think you can pretty much install everything they offer except for the heated steering wheel.
At the least I think you could get a hitch, lighted door sills, cargo dividers, cargo mat, crossbars, splash guards, and all weather mats. Or go for the lighted running boards only.
I worked this through my salesman and said I was disappointed that the extended warranty the F&I guy said I was getting such a super deal on was $500 cheaper from another dealer. And after paying MSRP that they should offer to match the difference with free accessories or I would cancel. Got a call back the same day asking me what accessories I would like.
Also, not sure if they sold you the $100 deductible policy or not. If they did make them change it to zero deductible. And have them make it for 7/120 or even 8/120. The cost difference isn't that much and it's an easy change on their side.
Great I am hyped to cancelled the previous Honda Care contract I paid $1916,57 for 5 years 100K . This quote I got from the site listed aboved is $850 for the same package. wow... I don't think my dealer is going to match that price. The contract says you have 60 days to cancel this contrac adn receive full purchase price refund.
I already got a free trailer hitch and door edge guard from the dealer. and they are offering a 20% off on accesories so umm. Cancelling tomorrow, morning. Thanks to all the reader who posted the cheaper site.

Before you cancel, make sure that you can re-purchase the policy. I don't know if it was my Honda or Nissan, but I remember something that you purchase the HondaCare again once cancelled.
Dealers will price match the HondaCare prices...they would be stupid not to. They will not be able to empty out your wallet but they will still make a little money...specially if it's part of your vehicle purchase. Get your quotes first before buying the Pilot so you can include it in your finance if you want.
Hyannis sells the warranty I want for $100 less than Saccucci. Has anyone asked Saccucci to match? I would rather go through them. I talked to my dealer in NJ and they only sell third party warranties (not Honda Care) and it was very expensive. They wanted close to $1,500 to extend the powertrain to 100K miles. The 8/120 with zero deductible quoted by Hyannis for bumper to bumper was $1,300. I am very happy. I love the Pilot, but I am always concerned about the first production year of a new model.
May be a dumb question, BUT do you have to own the vehicle to get the quote online from Hyannis or others? I am asking because I want to go into my deal with the email in hand and see if i can get it onsite before buying online. Otherwise I am telling my dealership no thank you and buying the Honda Care after my purchase and before the 6000 miles.
I went to these sites a few days before I bought my CRV. I just put in the model and put 40 in for miles (and put in that days date I think) and was able to get a quote. Though - Hyannis went to my junk mail so I didn't see it.
This is how I knew the price of HondaCare and felt confident declining the 3rd party insurance offered when I signed the paperwork.
We had a blizzard right after I bought the car - so I was home and just bought the insurance within a day or two of buying my car.
Yes, "trying2decide", you do not need the VIN number. just go to the site, provide your email and your done. The quote will be emailed to you in a minute. If you email Succucci, they even have a link to the brochure, which has a list of what is covered.
With the Honda Care extended warranties, are they voided if you don't do every scheduled maintenance at the dealership? Like if I say I don't feel like paying dealership prices this time around and have them replace cabin air filters, but just go get an oil change somewhere quick & easy, is the Honda Care I (hypothetically) purchased void?
I asked this when I bought my Toyota warranty. Toyota basically said that if you go to a 3rd party garage or do it yourself, save all of the receipts. You may be required to prove you maintained your car properly, it did not have to be at a dealership.
Ya I would read the third party contract very careful. My dealer offered ethos group insurance. It says u need to get a timing belt replace at 60k or warranty is voided.. It was 2600 for 6yr/100k. When I told them about Honda care from Hyannis they issued refund and I'm still waiting for my refund.
Purchase the warranty online? Does the dealer have to see the car first to verify the condition of the care and verify that mileage is less than 6,000 miles?
No, I think there is a month requirement also (6 months) - double check on that. I think they figure that if it is less than 6,000 miles, you are covered under the normal warranty.
