Has anyone hacked a rubber mat for cargo/3rd row?

One of the only things I really liked about the Highlander was the rubber mat that covers the cargo area and up the back of the 3rd row. The folding cargo mat from Honda isn't a good fit for us because we fold and unfold the 3rd row frequently, we almost always have stuff stacked in the cargo area and I want something more rubbery for sound and to keep the dogs from sliding around when they're back there (hence the up the back of the 3rd row since dog hair doesn't come out of that nasty seat backing easily). I was thinking of getting something like the northridge mats from Lloyd's for the whole cargo area then cutting it to fit and velcro'ing it on. Then realized perhaps someone else has come up with something workable already. Anyone?

I don't know if this will work for dogs, but I took the hard plastic side of the cargo cover and sprayed it with a rubberized undercoating spray. I did it to reduce things sliding around when I have the hard plastic side up. It helped a lot although it's not as good as a thick rubber mat. But it was only $8 though.

Auto zone and Walmart sell 6 ft vinyl roll for $12 I think. Cut to the size you want. I would recommend picking up velcro to keep it steady.

hmm I got a "foldable" plastic mat that goes on the cargo and 3rd row. Essentially it folds when the 3rd row is up and it lays down flat when the 3rd row is down. Is that what you're talking about? it's not rubber per se but more of a harder plastic material... I can take a picture of it if you want.

The dealer threw this in when I bought the car, BTW

I like that mat solution for my dogs.

I'd seen it before and forgot about it.

I think you are talking about the OEM cargo tray...

I bought the Honda system that covers the whole back area and has an apron that folds down over the rear bumper to protect it.
We have Goldens and have crates as we don't want them flying around in the back.

I like this! Any idea of these would work with the OEM seat covers installed?
