I am amazed to see people getting such a big cut under MSRP. I went to 3 different dealerships when looking and my dealer gave be the best offer of $1000 under MSRP (with shipping). The two other places only gave me $500 and NO discount respectively.

$2500??? wow.

You are right Paris. I should have said $2900 Under MSRP not Invoice. Still a great deal and a great vehicle. This my first car buying experience that I feel I did not get screwed on in some way.

Hi Chekyursix ,

I think the Piloteers here have given you excellent advice to check outside the Frederick-Greater DC area. I wish I'd known about the Harrisburg option before I bought mine in Germantown (MD).

Looking ahead to after you've become the proud Pilot owner, I can recommend your "local" Honda dealership in Frederick--Shockley--for servicing your vehicle. I've purchased and/or had my Hondas serviced there for longer than I'd care to admit (20 years, actually!) and have generally had positive experiences over the years.

BUT Shockley wouldn't come through for me on my Pilot purchase. There's never a Pilot to be seen on their lot (I drive by there everyday to/from work), though Accords are lined up out the kazoo. So anybody trying to work with them (on a Pilot purchase) can pretty much count on playing the ordering game--on their terms.

Default Pricing for Pilot

Hi. I'm new to this forum but have found all your comments extremely valuable in determining whether the Pilot was the right choice for us. I'm happy to say that I will be picking up our new Sage Brush Pearl EXL-NAV on Saturday. After reading all of your posts, I think we got a great deal - $1300 under MSRP. Thanks to everyone for all of your insight!

$2900 under MSRP is incredible I bow to the master!

From all the offers I received, $750-1,000 seemed about as far as most dealers were willing to go, and to get that you had to work for it a bit. At least in my area.

When confronted with a lower price they resorted to the "well that dealer is probably lying to you and you wont get the vehicle." My response was pretty much "well who says YOU aren't lying to me now just to keep my business and prevent me from going to someone willing to give me a better price?" If you say dealer X cant get me a Pilot that he says is inbound and earmarked for his dealership, WHY should I believe you when you say the same?"

Some dealers stopped talking after that and some just honestly said we wont sell it for that price but thanks for thinking of us.

My target was $1,500 under and I hit it but felt I might be pushing my luck if I tried for more and I was about out of dealers to try unless I wanted to extend my shopping radius to 100+ miles, which I didnt.

I would expect once the Alabama plant comes on line, there will be plenty of pilots to go around and the discounts will be easier to get and will possibly be greater.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I think Honda's strategy is pretty clever, and they seem to understand supply and demand.

Well are there plans to phase out production in Canada? If not then there will be more pilots to be had. Im not saying they will resort to rebates, and the demand will still be there of course, but just having more pilots to sell should ease the supply crisis somewhat and enable buyers to get the dealers off MSRP a littlle easier.

My comment is just based on what I've seen with the Odyssey. When I bought my Pilot, Odyssey's were being sold at MSRP, and you had to "order" one, after four+ years. With the new Odyssey on the horizon, balancing the demand between the Odyssey and the Pilot may net out to the same supply/demand result we're now seeing.

Talking

I recently purchased a 2004 black Honda Pilot EX-L with Navi for $700 above invoice $30,758 (including $490 freight) plus $450 next day delivery fee on a flat-bed truck from the dealer to my home in Northern Virginia.

I highly recommend calling Wally Scisson at Voss Honda in Tipp City, OH at (800) 597-8677 and he will treat you like no other car salesman. Wally is very thorough, courteous and professional. I'm not advertising Voss Honda but my experience with Wally at Voss Honda was so wonderful that I thought I would share with the forum. I flew up to Tipp City (10 minutes from the airport) landed at Dayton International Airport (DAY) and Wally picked me up at the airport and took me to the dealer. I did my predelivery checklist and signed all paperworks including financing and flew back home 2 hours later. The next day at 2pm, my Pilot arrived at my door and the whole process was so flawless that I would do again when I'm in the market for another Honda vehicle.

BTW: All dealers in the Northern Virginia should go back to professionalism school because they are just plain old terrible. I guess there are too much demand in this area and the dealer don't care if they treat you right or not. I had a firm deal with a $1000 deposit for the same Pilot in Maryland and can you believe that the dealer reneged on the contract at the last minute because some fool was willing to pay $2000 above invoice for the same vehicle. I guess that person haven't heard of hondapilot.org ;-))))

Welcome, Congrats! Another Northern Virginian, y'all. Just don't try a headfake on pictures, headfake, or you'll get slapped with this infraction:

Default Good deal??

Hi,

I got an offer from O'Donnell Honda in Ellicott City for a 2004 Pilot EX with running boards for $28,900 including freight and running board. Is that a good deal or can I bargin more?

The dealer was also asking for a $500 deposit to hold the car.....I was a little hesitant about it. Do I need to give him a deposit or what should I obtain before I put down the deposit (get something in writing or VIN #??)

Thanks.......
