Default ny CITY area dealer experiences

Hi all, wanted to get input on any positive experiences in our area. We just put a deposit on a Havasu Blue EX-L with Nav at the Parragon Honda in Queens. We will pay MSRP. They wanted to sell us an in stock SS for $500 over MSRP, but we are willing to wait. The only weird thing is that they don't discuss accessory pricing with until the car comes in or you have to separately call the salespeople for accessories. We really didn't like that and I was going to start calling some other dealerships, thought I would check here first for some ideas.

Thanks

Default Madison Honda

I had a positive experience at Madison Honda, Madison, NJ. Contact info can be found at www.madisonhonda.com. My salesperson was Jacob. I have a red Pilot EX-L on order at MSRP. They did not attempt to charge a premium or force dealer options.

Changing the subject, I am actually considering canceling my order to purchase the Volvo Cross Country station wagon. If I do, maybe you can get lucky and take my place in the queue.

Default NYC

We went with Hillside Honda (Jamaica), which advertised the LX at MSRP. Car is on order for sept. build. Salesman was amazingly ignorant, kept using the word "builded", and didn't seem to know much. Will this work out? I'll let you know.

Default your lucky

On my desperate search for a pilot I visited most of the Honda dealers I knew (Hillside, Paragon, City, Plainview, P.S.,) hillside there are good to keep theirs word I went to order my they said January. Paragon worst place to buy if you do not fight back to them they rip you off they try to sell CR-V to my sister $1000 over the MRSP she put a deposit, I made her cancelled. They want $3500 over for the pilot on stock, no way, Plainview the sales person insult me because I ask him to get a pilot at MSRP. Finally P.S. not the best to my other experiences request $100 deposit and 6 to 8 weeks waiting (at that time June 13) I got my pilot August 16.

'builded' -- LOL

"didn't seem to know much" -- not surprised at all. thats a very common observation amongst many members here with dealers across the country.

Have you tried Mahwah Honda ? I have bought an Accord back a few years ago and had a plesant experience with them. I had also called them before buying our Pilot just to see what they were planning to sell it at. They were selling at MSRP but we live in California and like I said - I was only just checking to gauge what the dealers were doing across the coast.

Default out of state purchases

Have you tried Mahwah Honda ?

We were just about to travel out of NY in our search for the Pilot when we saw the ad for Hillside. We thought Jersey would be as bad as NY...
OTOH, we have never bought a car out of state before. Is it too difficult?

Not at all. NJ does not have state tax. But, wait - don't get excited. You will have to pay the NY state tax if/when you register the vehicle there.

In fact, I used to live in NY and bought our Accord from Mahwah (out of state) in 1996.

Default Very good experience

pilotowner2B,

Try Bay Ridge Honda in Brooklyn. I 've had a pleasant experience eventhough I have changed my order twice. Ask for Wally. He's quite the entertainer too.

Wow, Paragon wanted $5000.00 over MSRP back in June. They didn't get my business and it seems everyone stayed away from them. Piece of dirty...

Default So, Pilot03...

Which dealer did you go with in the end? Did you pay much over MSRP?

Unhappy our pilot is not here yet

We actually put the order in at Parragon, they gave it to us at MSRP. They had a silver one in stock for $500 over MSRP (originally 2000 over), but we decided to wait for a Blue one. It's been three weeks and they told us 6-8 weeks. Hope they come thru, I'm beginning to wonder though.

Default charging more if they are in stock?

So if you wait you can get MSRP? But if you take what they have they charge you more? Hm...

Paragon just e-mailed me saying they have the model I want in stock. If I call them, I wonder if the price will be higer than I'm willing to pay. Interesting.

I hope it works out, pilotowner2B. I am in the same boat with Hillside Honda. Waiting is agony!

Put a deposit with my local SI Honda (Staten Island) back in April or May to purchase at MSRP w/o forced options but when the first shipment of Pilots (I believe 4) came, the dealer wanted +$1500.00. Told them I will not pay one cent over the msrp but left my deposit there b/c saleman told me to wait a while. I left as it is b/c I was still debating myself whether to get ML320 (1st choice but no local dealer), MDX (2nd choice and see reason 1st choice) and final choice which was Pilot (2 min distance from home b/c one minute long traffic light).
I believe it was end of July when I called salesman and told him that if I don't get a car soon, will call credit card company to cancel the paymt. His reply was that I don't need a car right now (true) but work with him b/c he is trying to get me a car at MSRP. Well, got me one at MSRP on 8/15.

Did I try very hard to get a Pilot at MSRP meantime?..Nope. I stopped by one Honda dealer in Rt35 (don't know the town name in NJ), close to Homdel when I went to Lowes and Walmart on Rt35. The saleman wanted $1000.00 or $1500.00 over the MSRP or get some options. Told him that I will get a wheel lock as an option. He said no way and I said, goodbye.

One time, I was on my way to Jackson Hts so called Paragon Accura to inquire whether they have any MDXs at MSRP, saleman told me that he got one at MSRP so I stopped by the place. When I went there, they wanted +$5000.00. Up a mile away from Acura, their sister company, Paragon Honda was demanding +$5000.00.

I am happy that I got it MSRP but not that happy b/c it is sitting in the garage depreciating, not getting much usage now. Need good reasons to bring it out of the garage on weekends.

But NY residents don't pay NJ sales tax you one buys from NJ dealer. But, can't say the same when you register your car (new or used) in NYS. Pataki wants his share of the loot.
