Do any people who work in NYC have a contingency plan if the transit workers go ahead with their proposed strike next week? For those of you that don't know, the New York City transit workers are threatening to strike next week. If they do strike there will be no NYC subways or busses running. Obviously, this will cripple the City. The insanity has already begun; my friend told me that at 5:30 last night in the Times Square subway station none of the turnstiles would accept metrocards; just a taste of things to come.
I live in the City (read Manhattan) so I can walk to work (about 30 blocks), but our nanny lives in Queens and won't be able to get to work. That means no child care and daddy won't be able to leave the kids home alone. It will be complete chaos if there is a strike. I understand that, in the event of a strike, Mayor Bloomberg is going to impose various restrictions including that a car will not be allowed on a bridge or in a tunnel if it has less than 4 occupants. Just another day in Gotham. Evergreen

This is the first I am even hearing about this! Apparently, I don't get out much!!
Should be interesting to follow, though. Good luck to you!!

I have to walk 30 minutes from Penn station to office, if there is a strike next week !
I wish they don't impose the 4 people restrictions for Pilots !!!

We were just talking about this at the "water cooler".
I live in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn (close to Coney Island Amusement Park for those with Navi's) and work in Midtown Manhattan (50's). It already takes me an hour and a half to get in and will not even attempt commuting if there is a strike. I will telecommute and probably be more productive at home. Most of the whiners here are complaining about there possible walk from Penn or Grand Central, I wish my commute was that civilized. BTW, Strike is highly unlikely since union will be fined heavily and dont want to P.O. New Yorkers during the holidays.
